Antoni Amat was born in the province of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) in 1960. During his first training stage he was remarkably influenced by the Mediterranean landscape and his disclosure of Picasso’s and Dalí’s paintings. At the beginning of his artistic lifestyle he had the opportunity to meet Dalí in person, a crucial fact regarding his first pictorial steps.
Amat studied arts visiting alternatively the Schools of Art Iade and Massana in Barcelona. During this period he performed several collaboration works for the Ramón Carrera Studio of Design and Interior Design. In Barcelona he deepened in the techniques and theories of art and painting. In 1975 he presented the first exhibition of his works. He obtained several prices. The first phase he went through lasted until 1980, during which the Surrealism was remarkably present and he was influenced by Dalí and the Surrealists of Paris. In the course of the 80’s a rupture took place that leaded him to the current work showing his personal way of artistic expression.
During the 90’s he exhibited his works in Barcelona, New York, several cities in France, Germany, Spain and Italy, during National and International Fairs of Art, Art-Frankfurt in Germany, Kunst-Raik in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Axterpo in Barcelona, Spain…
In his new works Antoni Amat has shown us how he has widened the ways of expression of the apparently known and opened a door to intellectual game and to expression. The strength shown in his gestures and the unquestionable light of the colours have gone along with him, consolidating his works and transmitting a vital nerve to his canvases.
At the end of the 90’s, Antoni Amat incorporated material substance in his works.
The Earth has been divided into quarters, sliding and creating its own weight and causing an abrupt surface full of questions. This has allowed us to experience a world full of subtleties where plurality cohabits with harmony. In addition, dense worlds have been created and undressed to show the breath hidden in their inside, revealing us the power of gestures and colours appearing with a provocative vivacity.
Furthermore, Antoni Amat has developed an intense activity in the field of graphical work, sculpture and large format works.
His works are regularly exhibited in the Maeght gallery in Barcelona-Paris, as well as in other art galleries in Madrid, Mallorca, Germany, Italy, a.s.o.
Over and above that, his works can be found in museums, private foundations and private collections all over the world.
